A gambol in the country

Gambling, swearing and drinking are not usually activities encouraged during work hours. Which is why GDJ chose a Saturday for our trip to the country races.

The ladies Frocks and suits were donned. Odds were checked. Cash was withdrawn. The weather may have been dubious but spirits were high as we arrived at Yarra Valley Racing in Yarra Glen. A trackside marquee, complete with a delicious supply of food, kept us in comfort throughout the day as all observed the racing talent and some surveyed the – er – other kind of talent. A few races and pick-up lines later, most of us were happily enjoying the food, wine and fine company.

Checking the form There was much consultation of form guides as strategies were devised and bets were placed. Several races saw some sad faces but, by the end of the day, some big winnings had been made and almost all came away with more than they’d started with. To top it off, we were treated to a streaker before the final race, leaving many ladies in the group quite simply, breathless. Of course, our quick-thinking happy-snappers captured every last inch of the action!

Horses racing As the bus took us back to town, some made plans to continue into the evening while others were glad to head home. But all agreed it had been a great way to spend a Saturday!
