4 crew, 3 weeks, 2 continents and 1 calendar

With just a couple of pages left in this year’s AGCO calendar it won’t be long before our 2008 edition will be starring on the walls of farms from Methven in New Zealand, to Cambridge in Tasmania. But what’s the story behind the calendar? We reckon it’s worthy of it’s own month.

Once Mario from AGCO (pictured) has sorted out the camera shy farmers, Renee starts weaving her magic, plotting the mission. As you can see the calendar involves a lot of work and setting up (thanks Ben – what a frame). Once our starring farming families are selected the road trip begins. This year we travelled extensively across Australia and New Zealand, showcasing the diversity of our agricultural industry and discovering the extensive stories that contribute to the rich fabric of our farming community.

There were plenty of memorable moments, with a a few anecdotes that only a road trip like this could provide. Imagine a blisteringly hot day, one 4WD and two photographers with a three hour drive ahead of them. Got it? Then picture them finally arriving at a farm with a location best found only with a GPS unit.

A knock on the door… another one… and no answer. The temperature started to rise further, this time inside the 4WD.

An hour and 60km around the property our team, complete with newly acquired orienteering skills, had found the star digging his new 50,000 mega litre dam. Only in the country…
